Bike Emergency Response Team
|
After reviewing the number of requests for equipment and personnel at special events in the area, CLEMC recognized a need to provide a rapid, mobile, and cost effective alternative to providing an ambulance and crew to densely populated events. The solution was that CLEMC the Bike Medic Emergency Response Team (BERT) to enhance Advanced Life Support (ALS). One of the fastest growing trends in emergency medical response today is utilization of mountain bicycles. Quiet, cost efficient, and amazingly effective, mountain bikes are able to bridge the gap between automobiles and foot patrol. The mobility of an EMS provider on a bike can mean the difference between life and death in congested or crowded conditions. The CLEMC BERT team was credited with a code save using an AED during the 2005 Houston Marathon. CLEMC BERT has been utilized at local events including: Seabrook Lucky Trails Marathon, Galloway Gallup, numerous fun runs and Kemah Boardwalk during special events and holidays.
